Through epidemiological investigation, clinical symptom observation, necropsy analysis, bacterial isolation and identification, and viral detection, this study examined multi⁃pathogen infections and drug susceptibility in reserve breeding pigeons from a large⁃scale pigeon farm in Guangdong under high⁃temperature and high⁃humidity conditions. The results revealed that the diseased pigeon flock was primarily infected with Newcastle disease virus (NDV),H9N2 subtype avian influenza virus, and pigeon circovirus(PiCV),accompanied by co⁃infections with Escherichia coli and Salmonella. Drug susceptibility testing showed that the pathogens were highly sensitive to gentamicin. The findings suggest that PiCV infection may enhance the susceptibility of pigeons to H9N2 avian influenza and play a critical role in mixed infections. This study provides clinical evidence for understanding the mechanisms of mixed infections in pigeons under immunosuppressive conditions and offers valuable insights for the comprehensive prevention and control of pigeon diseases.

This study aims to explore the diagnostic and therapeutic methods for feline urinary retention. As a common manifestation of Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease(FLUTD),feline urinary retention can lead to systemic infection or even death in severe cases. In this case, feline urinary retention was initially suspected through inspection, inquiry, and palpation;further confirmed by imaging examinations including DR and abdominal color Doppler ultrasound;and finally diagnosed based on the results of blood routine, biochemical indicators, and coagulation function tests. After 3 days of conservative treatment, the cat's symptoms showed no significant improvement,so perineal urethrostomy was performed. The cat achieved good postoperative recovery and a favorable prognosis. This case indicates that for urinary retention cases unresponsive to conservative treatment, perineal urethrostomy can effectively improve the quality of life of affected cats, providing valuable reference for clinical practice.

Chicken is one of the main sources of meat protein with gradually increased proportion in the national meat consumption, therefore consumers are paying more attention to the meat quality. Influenced by the COVID pandemic and bird flu,the market of frozen chicken products is increasing. However, the quality of frozen chicken products generally declines significantly over time. Therefore, breeding researchers not only pay attention to improving broiler production performance, but also study meat quality improvement strategies in large ?? scale production. According to previous studies, the evaluation and detection methods of chicken meat quality varied between reports, yielding inconsistent results. In order to provide references and basic data for building the chicken meat quality evaluation system and the improvement of chicken quality, the evaluation methods (e.g.,physical indicators, chemical composition and sensory evaluation),detection index(e.g.,pH value, meat color, tenderness, water holding capacity, composition of amino acids and fatty acids),and the influencing factors(e.g.,breed,age,feed composition, management, pre??slaughter stress)of chicken meat quality were summarized in this paper.

Nutritional Value of Non - conventional Oilseed Meal and Its Application of Fermented Feed in Broiler Production
LEI Yuheng, Guo Zhaowen, SONG Min, MA Xianyong, CUI Yiyan, YU Miao
Guangdong Journal of Animal and Veterinary Science    2025, 50 (3): 71-81.   DOI: 10.19978/j.cnki.xmsy.2025.03.11
    Abstract242)      PDF (1056KB)(905)       Save
Miscellaneous meal refers to the by⁃product from oil crops after extraction, including rapeseed meal, cottonseed meal, peanut meal and sunflower seed meal. It has high yield and low price, and is rich in protein, fat, and minerals, which make it a valuable unconventional feedstock. However, the high levels of anti⁃nutritional factors present such as crude fiber, tannins, phytic acid and thioglycoside in miscellaneous meal not only impede the digestion and absorption of nutrients but also have toxicological effects, severely constraining the feed utilization of miscellaneous meal. With the advancement and widespread adoption of biotechnological approaches in animal feed production, fermentation of feed raw materials offers a distinctive advantage. Microbial fermentation facilitates the reduction of anti⁃nutrition factors in miscellaneous meal and breaks down indigestible or poorly utilized components into readily absorbable small molecules, enhancing digestion and utilization efficiency of animals. Currently, lactic acid bacteria, bacillus, yeast, and mold are the predominant microorganisms employed in the fermentation of miscellaneous meals. Fermentation also generates valuable metabolites, providing a rich source of probiotics for animals.Reasonable utilization of miscellaneous meal not only save conventional feed resources, alleviate the shortage of domestic feed resources and the situation of“human and animal competition for food”,but also address environmental pollution caused by waste discharge. Miscellaneous meal has broad application prospects in animal production. This paper reviews the nutritional value of miscellaneous meal, changes in nutritional components and anti⁃ nutritional factors before and after fermentation,as well as the application effect of fermented feed in broiler production. It also summarizes the current challenges in the utilization of miscellaneous meal,in order to provide theoretical basis for the application of fermented miscellaneous meal in broiler production.

Abstract:Jinqian Baihua She is a highly-demanded precious crude drug derived from the dried juvenile body of Bungarus multicinctus Blyth(Yin Huan She). It is necessary to promote and standardize the artificial breeding of B. multicinctus to assure its sustainable development. In this article, some explorations had been conducted on adult snake breeding, snake egg hatching, and infant snake nurturing. In terms of adult snake breeding,a breeding model of“multi-layer three-dimensional snake house”was proposed, and the layout of breeding boxes and specifications of breeding equipment were listed;an environmental humidity of 60%-65% was found to be suitable for the growth of B. multicinctus. In terms of hatching,it was found the eggs had a high hatching rate in yellow sandy soil at 27 ℃ and 88% humidity, and an approach for moisturizing the eggs was proposed. In terms of infant snakes nurturing, some first feeding bait were tested, among which newly hatched pond loach[Misgurnus anguillicaudatus(Cantor)]was the most preferred. The research might be valuable in the scientific breeding of B. multicinctus and the production of Jinqian Baihua She for reference.

The problem of pet feces is not only related to the health status of pets, but also closely related to environmental sanitation and human health. This paper reviews the causes of pet manure odor, odor components and the research and application progress of pet manure deodorization technology. From the perspective of safety, efficiency and sustainable development, the research hotspots of pet manure deodorization were summarized, including specific nutrient regulation, microbial deodorization and biological enzymatic deodorization. In view of the complexity of odor components,a comprehensive strategy from both source and end application is proposed. Application in the source, improve the digestion and absorption rate of nutrients, reduce the formation of odor precursors;in the end application, the transformation and degradation of malodorous organic matter, improve the efficiency of manure deodorization,in order to improve the pet environment and create a harmonious ecology of human pet symbiosis to provide a reference.

Newcastle Disease Virus(NDV)has been successfully used as a vaccine carrier in a variety of human and animal diseases to develop vaccines. Studies have shown that recombinant Newcastle disease virus (rNDV) vector vaccines have better performance in humoral immunity, mucosal immunity, and challenge protection compared with traditional vaccines. NDV vector has become a ideal tool for the development of safe, efficient, low toxicity, and better immunogenicity vector vaccines. The advances of novel vaccines for poultry, mammals, and humans using NDV as a vaccine vector are reviewed,to provide new ideas for the development of more epidemic vaccines using NDV vector.
