Goose astrovirus(GAstV)is a newly member of the astrovirus genus discovered recently in China, which mainly affects goslings under 3 weeks of age. The infection rate is as high as 80%,and the mortality rate can beas high as 50%. The goslings infected with GAstV but survived showed growth inhibition and decreased immune level, and were more susceptible to other pathogens. GAstV could be transmitted vertically as well as horizontally by fecal?oral route, and also showed the characteristics of cross ? host transmission. Up to now,due to the lack of commercialized vaccine and other biological products for this virus and the slow progress of the research on its pathogenic mechanism, the scientific formulation and effective implementation of prevention and control measures for this disease still lacks a sufficient theoretical basis and a sound veterinary system, resulting in the grim situation of this disease prevention and control, which has caused great economic losses to the goose industry in China. In this paper, abrief review of the etiology, epidemiology, pathogenicity, immune response and its pathogenic mechanism of GAstV was carried out, with a view to providing a reference for the in ? depth study of GAstV and the preliminary development of preventive and control measures.

Throughout the long history of co⁃evolution with humans, dogs have developed a superior ability in the understanding and utilization of social signals within human society compared to other animals. While there has been considerable foreign research on dog social behavior and cognition and the human⁃dog relationship, this area of study is relatively new in China. This review summarizes the research progress on dog social cognitive abilities in human⁃dog interactions, focusing on the understanding and use of human social signals by dogs, their ability to send social signals to humans, and factors that influence dog social abilities with humans(i.e.,environmental,physiological,and genetic factors). Currently, human understanding of dog social behavior is inadequate, with most research confined to laboratory settings and having limited practical application. Further research could provide scientific evidence for improving dog social behavior and human⁃dog interactions, fostering a more harmonious relationship between humans and dogs.

Abstract:Jinqian Baihua She is a highly-demanded precious crude drug derived from the dried juvenile body of Bungarus multicinctus Blyth(Yin Huan She). It is necessary to promote and standardize the artificial breeding of B. multicinctus to assure its sustainable development. In this article, some explorations had been conducted on adult snake breeding, snake egg hatching, and infant snake nurturing. In terms of adult snake breeding,a breeding model of“multi-layer three-dimensional snake house”was proposed, and the layout of breeding boxes and specifications of breeding equipment were listed;an environmental humidity of 60%-65% was found to be suitable for the growth of B. multicinctus. In terms of hatching,it was found the eggs had a high hatching rate in yellow sandy soil at 27 ℃ and 88% humidity, and an approach for moisturizing the eggs was proposed. In terms of infant snakes nurturing, some first feeding bait were tested, among which newly hatched pond loach[Misgurnus anguillicaudatus(Cantor)]was the most preferred. The research might be valuable in the scientific breeding of B. multicinctus and the production of Jinqian Baihua She for reference.

China is a major aquaculture production country. In recent years, aquaculture industry has developed rapidly, but the problem of disease has become increasingly prominent, seriously threatening the healthy development of aquaculture. Among these,Streptococcosis is the most serious. Streptococci can infect a variety of aquatic organisms. The pathogens of streptococcal disease include Streptococcus iniae,Streptococcus agalactiae,Streptococcus parauberis. Typical symptoms of the Streptococcosis include behavioural abnormalities, proptosis, and meningitis. At present, antibiotics are still the first choice for the treatment of Streptococcosis, but long-term use of antibiotics is not conducive to the long- term development of aquaculture. Vaccine is an effective way to prevent and control theStreptococcosis, but there is no approved commercial vaccine. This article will introduce the etiology, epidemiology, clinical symptoms, pathogenesis, and detection technology of streptococcal disease, new strategies, and thinking of the prevention and control of streptococcal disease,in order to provide a reference for the prevention and control of Streptococcosis.

Meat tenderization plays a pivotal role in elevating the palatability of farmed tilapia. Conventionally, the incorporation of Faba beans into tilapia feed has been employed to augment muscle crude fat content, enhance muscle fiber diameter, and bolster muscle resilience, cumulatively leading to a desirable texture. Nonetheless, this approach is not without its challenges,as it can potentially undermine the growth performance of tilapia, induce intestinal mucosal damage, and even culminate in substantial mortality. To date, the specific factor within Faba beans responsible for these effects, and the underlying mechanism by which it exerts its influence on tilapia meat texture, remain enigmatic. In this comprehensive review,we undertake a rigorous comparative analysis of existing research pertaining to the cultivation of tenderized tilapia. This review delves into the intricate interplay between meat quality, growth performance, intestinal health, and immune indicators following the tenderization process. It aims to offer a theoretical reference for further research and practical applications of tilapia tenderization techniques.

Overview of Five Frequently Used Virus Inactivators
    SHI Daqing,XIAO Yongzhen,CHEN Hanlin,CHEN Jinxian,WANG Ling,QI Dongmei,LIN Derui*
Guangdong Journal of Animal and Veterinary Science    2023, 48 (4): 66-71.   DOI: 10.19978/j.cnki.xmsy.2023.04.12
    Abstract569)      PDF (1013KB)(2028)       Save
Virus inactivation is the process of using physical or chemical methods to make the virus lose infectivity. The virus inactivation efficiency is often affected by many factors, such as virus characteristics, types of inactivators and the aims of inactivation. The selection of inactivators is usually determined by the characteristics of the virus and its use after inactivation. Vaccine development requires complete inactivation of the virus while maintaining the integrity of the viral protective antigen epitope structure to induce an effective host immune response. Molecular biological detection requires complete viral genome integrity. Therefore, selecting appropriate inactivators to inactivate highly pathogenic pathogens is an important guarantee for subsequent work such as pathogen molecular diagnosis, serological analysis, and vaccine development. At present, more and more virus inactivators are being developed and utilized. In this paper,5 chemical virus inactivators frequently used are selected, namely formaldehyde,β ? propiolactone, guanidium based chaotropic salts, psoralen, hydrogen peroxide, the inactivation mechanism and inactivation characteristics of the aboved virus inactivators, along with the application of inactivated virus are summarized as follows.

Emulsion immune adjuvant, also known as oil adjuvant,is a kind of immune adjuvant that encapsulates antigens in various oil phases to provide a reservoir for immunogens and enhances the body 's specific immune response to antigens by presenting antigens to immune cells. Since the application of emulsion adjuvants was first reported in 1916,emulsion adjuvants have become an indispensable factor in vaccines research and development for more than 100 years, providing a material guarantee for safer and more efficacy vaccines against various infectious diseases in humans and animals. With the continuous development of modern vaccinology, the research and development of new vaccines have put forward higher requirements for adjuvants. Knowing the composition and understanding the immune mechanism of adjuvants are the premise for the application of adjuvants in vaccine research and development. In order to provide a theoretical reference for emulsion adjuvants in clinical use,in this paper, commonly used and commercialized emulsion adjuvants, such as white oil adjuvants, complete Freund 's adjuvant (CFA),incomplete Freund 's adjuvant(IFA),MF59?,AS adjuvants and Montanides adjuvants were chosen, and their components, immune mechanism and clinical application were reviewed.

Methionine is the first limiting amino acid for poultry when fed with corn?soybean meal diet. It plays an important role in maintaining the normal growth and laying performance of poultry. However, the research progress of methionine is mainly focused on chickens and few studies are on ducks. So far,the DL ? methionine, methionine hydroxyl analogue and L?methionine are commonly used in poultry. But they are absorbed and transferred in different ways to form L?methionine, and the efficiency is different. Methionine and its hydroxy analogues are absorbed through the front end of digestive tract, duodenum or ileum, and L ? methionine is produced by rate ? limiting enzymes andtransaminases. They participate in a variety of metabolic pathways in liver and other tissues, promote protein synthesis, provide methyl donors for methionine cycle, and improve antioxidant properties. Therefore, this article summarized the function of methionine and its application in ducks, including the apparent digestibility of methionine in duck, the optimal requirement and bioefficiency between resources in meat ? and egg ? ducks,in order to provide scientific basis for the application of methionine in duck production.

The experiment was to study the effects of different levels of moist fermented rapeseed meal fermented by Bacillus subtilis on the growth, serum physiology and biochemistry, intestinal digestibility and intestinal flora of grass carp(Ctenopharyngodon idella). A total of 450 grass carp with an initial average weight of(51.60±0.56)g were randomly divided into 5 groups with 3 replicates and 30 fish per replicate. The amount of moist fermented rapeseed meal in each group was 0(control group),10%,20%,30% and 40%,respectively,and the amount of rapeseed meal was reduced accordingly. The experiment lasted for 8 weeks. The results showed that the condition factor of 20% and 40% moist fermented rapeseed meal groups was significantly higher than that of control group( P<0.05). The contents of total cholesterol and high density lipoprotein in 40% group were significantly higher than those in control group( P<0.05). Dietary supplementation of more than 20% of moist fermented rapeseed meal significantly increased intestinal α⁃amylase activity( P<0.05),and dietary supplementation of more than 30% of moist fermented rapeseed meal significantly increased intestinal trypsin activity( P<0.05). With the increase of the replacement level of moist fermented rapeseeds, the numbers of Firmicutes, verrucobacteria and actinobacteria in intestinal tract increased, while the numbers of Proteobacteria and chloromyces decreased. Under the experimental conditions, moist fermented rapeseed meal had a certain growth⁃promoting effect, which could improve intestinal digestive enzyme activity and intestinal flora composition. The feed prepared with 20% moist fermented rapeseed meal is more beneficial to increase the fatness of grass carp, increase the lipid metabolism capacity of liver, reduce the oxidative damage of liver and improve the intestinal flora. The feed prepared with 30% and 40% moist fermented rapeseed meal formula has a good effect on improving intestinal digestive enzymes of grass carp.

Global warming has accelerated the melting of glaciers, increased the frequency and intensity of extreme weather, and damaged ecosystems. Greenhouse gases emitted by livestock play a crucial role in global warming. The sixth assessment report of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on climate change has pointed out that methane emission reduction is the fastest and necessary way to mitigate global climate change. Methane emissions from ruminants account for nearly one?third of anthropogenic methane emissions, and cause 3%?13% of dietary energy loss. Therefore, this paper will review the methane emission reduction measures of ruminants.

Pseudorabies, also called Aujeszky 's disease,is a highly contagious disease caused by pseudorabies virus (PRV). In the absence of a specific host, pseudorabies virus can invade the body of a variety of mammals, including pigs, cattle, sheep, etc.,which leads to severe clinical symptoms and acute death in susceptible animals. The existence of porcine pseudorabies was first reported in China in the 1950s,and since 2011,new porcine pseudorabies variants have emerged in some areas, resulting in serious economic losses to the pig industry. Although scientists have been working on the design of diagnostic methods and the development of related vaccines, pseudorabies is still widespread in the pig industry, and its discovery in recent years that it also has potential problems for human health has aroused strong concern in the world. At present, pseudorabies vaccine is widely immunized in pig farms in China,so it is very important to detect the antibody level produced by the vaccine after immunization. In this paper, the current antibody detection methods for PRV will be summarized, and their advantages anddisadvantages will be compared and analyzed in order to provide a reference for the selection of antibody detection methods on pig farms.

The CPV positive serum was used for identification test of two CPV related live vaccines, and the results met the quality standards. IFA for CPV was used to determine the viral titer of three CPV vaccine strains, and the results showed that the IFA method established had cross immune response to the three vaccine strains, which had little difference with the sensitivity of commercial CPV fluorescent monoclonal antibody. All above show that CPV positive serum has strong neutralizing ability and good specificity, and can be used for the efficacy test, exogenous virus test and identification test of canine live vaccines. and identification test of CPV ? related vaccines, and is crucial for the quality control of CPV ? related biological products. In order to prepare CPV positive serum with high neutralizing antibody titer and good specificity, two healthy and susceptible beagles were immunized with CPV DD strain for the test. After four times of immunization,we collected blood and separated serum. The serum was identified by virus neutralization test, immunofluorescence assay, and sterility test, mycoplasma test, and exogenous virus test in the third part of the Chinese Veterinary Pharmacopoeia 2020. And then the serum was used in the exogenous virus test and identification test in canine vaccines. An indirect immunofluorescence assay(IFA)for CPV was established and applied to potency test of vaccine.

The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of different doses of cyclophosphamide(CTX)onyellow chickens were randomly divided into 4 groups(Control group,CTX20 group,CTX40 group, and CTX80 group)with 3 replicates per group and 10 in each replicate. All groups were fed with basic diet. The chickens in the CTX20,CTX40,and CTX80 groups were intramuscularly injected with 20,40,and 80 mg/kg BW of CTX at 19,20, and 21 days of age,and the control group was injected with the same amount of normal saline. Seven days after the last injection,15 chicks from each group were randomly selected to collect the bursa of Fabricius and serum for histological observation,Tunel, real ? time fluorescence quantitative PCR,and ELISA detection. The histological results showed that CTX treatment could induce the increase of space between the nodules of the bursa of Fabricius, the decrease of cell density in the medullary tissue, fibroplasia in the medullary region, the dissolution of the nucleus, the pyknosis of the nucleus, and the increase of necrotic cells. The Tunel test results showed that CTX could induce apoptosis of bursa cells(P<0.05),and the apoptosis rate in the CTX40 group was more than 35%. The results of real? time fluorescence quantitative PCR showed that the apoptosis ? related genes expressions of Bcl ? 2 and NF ?κB were significantly decreased, and the mRNA expressions of TNF?α and Caspase3 were significantly increased in the bursa of Fabricius by CTX treatment(P<0.05). The results of serum ELISA showed that compared with the control group, the expression level of TNF?α and IFN?γ was significantly increased, and the expression level of IL?2 and IL?6 was significantly decreased(P<0.05). These results indicate that the immunosuppression model of the chicken bursae of Fabricius was successfully constructed in this study, and 40 mg/kg CTX had the best effect. the immunosuppression of the bursa of Fabricius in Lingnan yellow chickensand to provide an animal model reference for further research on how to improve the immunity of the bursa of Fabricius. Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)was characterized by persistence and recurrence. The current clinical treatment drugs were ineffective, expensive, and have serious adverse reactions, which causing long ? term distress to patients. Natural polysaccharides have many advantage, such as had a wide range of sources, lower cost, and fewer side effects, which can treat IBD by reducing inflammation, alleviating oxidative stress, adjusting microbial flora, and protecting mucosal barrier. In addition, polysaccharides have been studied as carriers of IBD drugs. However, due to the wide variety and complex structure of polysaccharides, most studies are still in the stage of animal experiments. This current paper mainly discusses the recent research progress of natural polysaccharides in the treatment of IBD,in order to provided more evidences for the further development and utilization of polysaccharides .

This study aimed to evaluate and compare the effects of rice?duck co?cropping and captivity on the performance of hemp duck,in order to lay a theoretical basis for the ecological farming of ducks. A total of 400 one? day?old male ducks from a commercial hatchery were randomly divided into two groups:arice?duck co?culture group (density of 30 ducks/m2)and a captive group(density of 10 ducks/m2),with 10 replicates in each group and 20 ducks in each replicate. The experimental duration was 49 days. The 20 ducks were divided into 10 wire floor fences for a total of 200 ducks in captive group, and another 200 were stocked in paddy fields as rice?duck co?culture group. At the age of 49 days, performances including body weight and feed intake were measured. Results showed that the daily gain, daily feed intake and body weight of the rice?duck co?culture group were significantly higher than those of the captive group(P<0.001),while the feed?to?gain ratio of the captive group was significantly higher than those of the rice?duck co?culture group(P<0.001).In conclusion, the rice?duck co?culture model could improve performance of ducks, reduce feed consumption, and improve economic profit.

Research Progress on the STING Signaling Pathway in Different Hosts Disease
Guangdong Journal of Animal and Veterinary Science    2024, 49 (2): 57-64.   DOI: 10.19978/j.cnki.xmsy.2024.02.10
    Abstract397)      PDF (1622KB)(658)       Save
cGAS?STING is an intracellular DNA sensor that activates innate immune responses against invading pathogens and autoimmune diseases. Activation of the STING pathway initiates interferon regulatoryfactor IRF3 and NF?κB. IRF3 can be transported into the nucleus and trigger the expression of ISGs and type I IFNs,leading to the activation of immune cells and migration to target cells. NF ? κBcan drive the production of inflammatory cytokines. cGAS ? STING can lead to the production of proteins that mediate inflammatory responses and plays a unique and critical role in host anti ? pathogen, autoimmune diseases, tumor immunity and aging ? related inflammation. In this paper, the structure and function of cGAS?STING signaling pathway are taken as the starting point, and its regulatory role in different hosts is comprehensively discussed,in order to provide theoretical basis and reference value for the related research of cGAS?STING.
