The Active Components of Gardenia jasminoides and Applications in Animal Production

Gardenia jasminoides,as a functional feed ingredient,is rich in conventional nutritional components, including carbohydrates,proteins,minerals,and fatty acids,as well as bioactive compounds such as iridoids, carotenoids,and polysaccharides. Studies have shown that dietary supplementation with gardenia or its extracts can improve animal growth performance,enhance the quality of meat and eggs,and strengthen antioxidant capacity and immune function. This review summarizes the conventional and bioactive constituents of gardenia and their applications in animal production,providing a reference for further development and utilization of this resource in sustainable and healthy animal husbandry.

Climate change directly or indirectly affects the health of livestock and poultry,leading to challenges such as heat stress,metabolic disorders,oxidative stress,and immunosuppression,which pose significant threats to the development of the livestock industry. Pogostemon cablin,commonly known as Patchouli,is a traditional Chinese herb known for its anti⁃inflammatory,antioxidant,and antidiarrheal properties. When used as a feed additive,either alone or in combination with other herbal formulations,it has been shown to alleviate heat stress in livestock and poultry, promote gastrointestinal health, and enhance antioxidant capacity to varying degrees. This article systematically reviews the physicochemical properties of Pogostemon cablin and its compound preparation,as well as their applications in livestock production. The findings aim to provide a reference for further promoting the use of Pogostemon cablin in animal production systems.

Analysis of Practical Effects and Economic Benefits of the Contract System in the Feeding and Management of Nursery and Finishing Pigs

In recent years,in the context of the continuous fluctuation of the live pig market,in order to seek an effective path to reduce costs and increase efficiency,this study focused on the innovation of internal management mechanism,introduced and implemented the contract system model in the feeding management of nurseries and finishing pigs,and explored and analyzed different coverage rates of the contract system(0 in the control group,test group I &Ⅱ;50%,trial group Ⅱ ≥50% and trial group Ⅲ 100%)of feeding management and economic benefits. The results showed that:compared with the control group,there were no significant differences in final weight,average daily gain,feed to gain ratio,FSA,mortality and feed weight gain cost in experimental group Ⅱ when the contract system coverage rate was ≥50% during the whole feeding process( P>0.05),but the fattening and weight gain cost was significantly decreased( P<0.01);When the coverage rate of contract system was 100%,the final weight and FSA of trial group Ⅲ increased significantly( P<0.01),feed to gain ratio,mortality rate,feed weight gain cost and fattening weight gain cost were significantly decreased ( P <0.01). To sum up,the fattening contract system significantly improves production performance,effectively reduces production costs,and improves economic benefits. According to the fattening pig sales unit price of 18 yuan /kg,the average fattening profit of test group Ⅱ and Ⅲ was improved. The deep⁃level reason analysis reveals that the implementation of the pig contract system can stimulate the labor enthusiasm and initiative of employees,which provides a powerful internal management mechanism innovation direction for the sustainable development of the pig farming industry.

To investigate the effects of dietary adding compound enzyme preparation and seaweed oligosaccharides on growth performance,and pork quality of Huaxiang black pigs,120 pigs with the average body weight of 80 kg were selected and randomly divided into 3 groups with 4 replicates per group and 10 pigs per replicate. The treatments were control group (feeding a basal diet),enzyme preparation group (feeding the basal diet supplemented with 200 mg/kg complex enzyme preparation),and oligosaccharide group(feeding the basal diet supplemented with 400 mg/kg algal oligosaccharide). The experiment lasted for 40 days. The results showed that compared to the control group,adding complex enzyme preparation increased the average daily gain(P<0.05), increased the content of flavoring amino acids in longissimus dorsi muscle,and reduced the drip loss(P<0.05). Compared to the control group,addition of oligosaccharides increased the redness,intramuscular fat content,and flavor amino acid content of longissimus dorsi muscle(P<0.05). In conclusion,the compound enzyme preparation can improve the performance of pigs,and the addition of compound enzyme preparation and oligosaccharides can improve the meat quality of pigs.

Energy is the most important nutrient in the gestation stage of sows,providing fuel for sow maintenance growth,reproduction and lactation processes as well as physical activity. Accurate determination of the energy utilization of feed ingredients in sows at different growth stages can better meet the energy needs of pigs at different growth stages. This paper reviews the energy requirements of sows during gestation and lactation from four databases e.g. the Nutrient Requirements of Swine(NRC,2012),and effects of different energy substance additions on reproduction performance and physiological function of sows at different stages,to provide a theoretical reference for future research on the dynamic energy requirements of sows during reproduction.

In 2021,swine production capacity has been fully restored and continues to fluctuate at a low level, while the supply of feed raw materials is insufficient and the price rises a lot,which has brought unprecedented pressure to the swine industry. This paper summarizes the current situation of swine nutrition and feed science, analyzes the development trends in 2022,and puts forward relevant suggestions in this field from the perspective of scientific research.
